I can tell from my experience that about a year ago the most reliable bank there was Grindlays Bank, on Tridevi Marg. Why, you will ask? Well mostly because it changes cash and travellers cheques and you can also use your Visa or Mastercard account to get an advance in Nepali rupees. Oh, and it's opened until 07:30 pm. There is also the Yeti Travels, which is the American Express agent in Kathmandu, but it doesn't change travellers cheques.
