The living goddes of Kathmandu, the Kumari Bahal

I agree, Durbar square is a great place to start. I was very impressed by the durability of their custom regarding the Kumari Devi, the living goddes who literally lives in Kumari Bahal. A young girl is chosen to be the reincarnation of the goddess Durga, thus to participate at several ceremonial events during her life as a goddess. The choosing implies several conditions, including passing a life marking ritual at the age of four. A girl can be the Kumari Devi until she reaches puberty. I recommend a visit there. It's interesing to see how they support this belife.
